Express ENTRY

Express Entry

Express Entry is not a program but an electronic application management system to manage application from skilled workers. Applicants submits their profile under Express Entry System and are ranked in the pool according the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Under the express entry system, the following programs are managed –

  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Worker Trades Program

How Does It Work?

  1. Eligibility Assessment: Before entering the Express Entry pool, candidates must determine their eligibility under one of the following federal immigration programs:

    • Federal Skilled Worker Program
    • Federal Skilled Trades Program
    • Canadian Experience Class
  2. Create an Online Profile: Eligible candidates create an online profile in the Express Entry system. This profile includes information about their skills, work experience, language proficiency, education, and other relevant details.

  3. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS): Profiles in the pool are ranked based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The CRS assigns points for factors such as age, education, work experience, and language skills. Additional points can be earned for a valid job offer, a provincial nomination, or other factors.

  4. Invitation to Apply (ITA): Periodically, the Canadian government conducts draws from the pool, inviting the highest-ranked candidates to apply for permanent residency. If you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you will have a limited time to submit your application.

  5. Application Submission: Once you receive an ITA, you can submit a complete application for permanent residency. This includes providing documents to support your claims in the profile and paying the required fees.

  6. Processing and Decision: After submission, your application will be processed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Most applications are processed within six months. If approved, you will receive your permanent resident visa.

Canadian Experience Class

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is for skilled workers with Canadian work experience who want to become permanent residents.

  • No Education Requirement: While there’s no formal education requirement, further qualifications can improve your Express Entry ranking.
  • Admissibility: Must be admissible to Canada; certain security, criminal, or medical issues may affect eligibility.
  • Living Outside Quebec: The CEC is for those planning to live outside Quebec, which has its own immigration processes.
